    Destinations: Public Lobbies and More

    22. SEPTEMBER - LAWRENCE
    [IMG]

Today we are adding Public Lobbies to Destinations. Now it’s even easier to meet with players around the world and explore Destinations together in VR. In addition, we are shipping more default Destinations, props, and tutorials for players to dig into and learn from.

    Public Lobbies
Join players from around the world with the new Public Lobbies feature. Meet new people, customize your avatar, and interact with physics props. Make new friends and add them as Steam friends from inside of Destinations. All players can create a public lobby from any Destination on the Steam Workshop - simply select "Create Lobby" from the Social panel and it will show up in the public lobby list.

    New Content
In addition, we are adding three new Destinations to the default set of shipped Destinations: photogrammetry of the Valve office lobby, La Pedrera in Barcelona, and Arcade Toss, a multiplayer game built in Destinations. We are also including a set of new props, a new avatar, and new hand gestures. Some of these items are locked by default though – you will need to explore different Destinations in order to unlock each unique prop. (Prop and hand gesture support is only available for players with motion controllers)

    More Examples and Documentation
To accompany the new content, we’ve added two new articles to the Destinations Wiki. One is an extensive tutorial on indoor photogrammetry which walks through the creation of the Valve Lobby Destination. The other document shows how scripting was used with Destinations in order to create the Arcade Toss Destination. All of the content assets for Arcade Toss will be shipped with this update as well.

    Workshop
We’ve been very excited to see the great content that creators have continued to upload. 120 Destinations have been uploaded to date, allowing players to visit 10 different countries. In addition there are numerous Destinations that depict game settings and other fictional places. A few notable mentions: mkhamra for his beautiful photogrammetry captures of Jordan, ToitagL for his capture of South Corsica, peppels for his capture of his Studio Room, and Rectus for hisBeach Sunset Destination.

Destinations is compatible with any HMD that is supported by OpenVR, including the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. It is available for free on Steam, and you can get it here.

    Destinations: Music, Cannons, and More

Today we are updating Destinations with great new content to explore, a simplified user interface, and new scripting hooks for content creators. With this update, players and creators can get even more out of Destinations.

    New Content
We are adding three new Destinations to the default shipped set:
Jam Session: Play the guitar, drums, and marimba with friends in this Liverpool inspired bar.
Tower Bridge: Explore the bank of Thames River next to London’s famous Tower Bridge.
Cannon Wars: Destroy your opponent’s fortifications before they destroy yours – your cannon fires cannonballs, mines, or anything else you throw in (beach balls, pumpkins, cake…)

In addition, we’re adding more unlockable props and a new avatar – explore the new content and the Destinations Workshop to unlock them all! (Prop support is only available for players with motion controllers)

    New User Interface
We’ve added new features to the user interface to make it easier to find content and hang out with friends in Destinations. A new dashboard makes it simpler to see where you are, what you can do, and what’s new. This updated interface also allows players to browse popular Destinations from the Workshop and subscribe to them in the menu. In addition, the UI has been tweaked to make it easier to host a room, join a room, and quickly see who the host of the room is.

    From the Workshop
The Destinations Workshop continues to grow, and as always we are impressed with what the community has created in 3D or captured with photogrammetry. Special callout to Jane Ng of Campo Santo for her Firewatch Destination – it has quickly become one of the most popular Destinations in the Workshop, and offers a unique opportunity to enter a game world in VR. Other notable additions to the Workshop include ianl’s The Banquet, and ATAT_Carleton’s multiple UK Heritage Site photogrammetry captures.

    For Creators
This update also includes additional hooks for content creators and scripters. We won’t get into the details here, but it boils down to making it simpler to set hand attachments and trigger interactions with hands. For more info on these changes, check out the change notes for this update. We’ve also updated the Destinations Wiki with more documentation and tutorials about using Destinations Workshop Tools.

Destinations is available for free on Steam, and is compatible with any HMD that is supported by OpenVR, including the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. Let us know what you think in the Destinations forums.

    Destinations: The Quest Update
    [IMG]
Complete quests, collect souvenirs, and stick them to your head! The Quest Update to Destinations is here, with a host of new features and content to explore.

    Introducing Geocaching Quests
Travel to various Destinations to find hidden item caches using the new Cache Finder tool. Locate one, and you (along with anyone questing with you) will earn a wearable item or avatar head to customize the way you look. Fancy a different hat than the one you found? Trade with other Destinations players on Steam or head over to the Steam Market. A new set of geocaching quests will appear each week, so get out there and find some caches!

    New Avatar Options
Show off your sense of style with new avatar customization options. You can now place hats, hair, and other wearables (which you’ve found on various quests) on your head. Resize and recolor every item to your taste, then save the whole set as a preset outfit for quick access.

    New Destinations, Tools, and More
Two new official Destinations have arrived: ponder the cosmos in the Clockwork Orrery, or enjoy a relaxing stay on the water at Illia’s Retreat. With the addition of tools, like the Airbrush and Drone Controller, players have new ways to interact with the world and other players. We’ve also added new avatar heads, avatar hands (complete with gestures of course), and a refreshed interface which makes it easier to meet up with friends in Destinations.

Whether you're using a Vive, Rift, or any other OpenVR compatible headset there's never been a better time to book a tour in Destinations. (Motion controllers are required for Quests, Tools, Props, and Wearables).

  7. Hallo,

Destinations is now SteamVR Home Beta
    19. MAI - LAWRENCE
    [IMG]

As you may have heard, we announced a large update to SteamVR Beta today. If not, you can see the announcement here. The short of it is that we are building the core functionality of Destinations into SteamVR as SteamVR Home (Beta). This means that richer environments, props, tools, multiplayer, and avatars will be available to all players by default.

We are excited to bring the functionality from Destinations to all of SteamVR, and hope you will come along with all of the experience and expertise you've gained over the last year. We also hope you will also bring the amazing content you've created in Destinations to the SteamVR Workshop, where it can be experienced by a much larger player base. The SteamVR Workshop Tools will be very familiar, and it is a simple matter to take your Destination and submit it to the SteamVR Workshop. Learn how to bring your Destination to SteamVR here.

As for all of your avatars and wearables you've found by completing quests, don't worry. Your inventory will be moved to SteamVR, where you will be able to continue searching for wearables every week. We'll move your inventories over once these updates have graduated from SteamVR Beta.

In addition, once this update is out of SteamVR Beta the Destinations application will no longer be updated. We've been amazed by the incredible work the community has done in Destinations, and appreciate all the feedback you've given us as Destinations has gone from a simple photogrammetry viewer to something more. You are all veterans of this creative space and we hope you'll pass your knowledge and experience along as the rest of the SteamVR community gets access to these worlds.

    See you in SteamVR!
